This year, we’re participating in the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy, with two sessions. We’ll discuss how independent journalism can become financially viable and show the difference shared services make for the organizations that use them.

Session 1: How can philanthropy help create viable public-value journalism?

April 16, 16:00 - 16:50 p.m.

Successful media organizations need more than one source of revenue to remain resilient in the long term. In this session, the speakers will share their perspectives on how media organizations can become less reliant on funding – for example, through the “magic triangle” as a recipe for success in public-interest journalism.

Speakers include:

The session will be moderated by Kathy Im, Director Journalism and Media, MacArthur Foundation.

It is open to all visitors and will be held in English.

Session 2: Shared services as critical infrastructure: what publishers, partners and funders need to know

April 17, 11:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.

Shared services are becoming increasingly important for publishers with limited resources and growing operational challenges. They have the potential to scale proven concepts, reduce duplication of effort, and strengthen entire regions and ecosystems – but only if publishers adopt them and funders support sustained investment. This session takes a practical look at how this can be implemented in practice.

The session will be moderated by Kim Bode, Head of Growth Initiatives, Newspack.

It is open to all visitors and will be held in English.
